Magnetic wireless charging is one of the nicest developments of recent years: snap a power bank onto your phone and keep walking. But the terminology flies at you: Qi, MagSafe, magnetic rings. Here is how it really works.
Wireless charging in short
Wireless charging works by induction: a coil in the charger transfers energy to a coil in your phone. The classic standard is called Qi and works with virtually every modern phone that supports wireless charging.
What does the magnet add?
The weak point of wireless charging was always alignment: place your phone a centimetre off-centre and it charged slowly or not at all. Apple solved that with MagSafe: a ring of magnets around the charging coil that positions the phone perfectly by itself. Products that are “MagSafe compatible”, like the SYVOX Solar 10K Magnetic and the Magnetic 20K, use that same magnet ring: snap on and charge, even on the move, in your hand or coat pocket.
Does it work with Android?
Yes, with one caveat. Wireless charging itself works on any Qi phone. The magnetic attachment requires a magnet ring, built into modern iPhones as standard. For most Android phones, a thin magnetic case or ring sticker is the solution.
Honest about speed
Wired is and remains faster. The SYVOX power banks charge at up to 22.5W wired and up to 15W wirelessly, and wireless loses some extra energy to heat. Practical rule of thumb:
- In a hurry? Use the (built-in) cable.
- On the move, in your bag, on your desk? Magnetic wireless is the most convenient: no little plug, no wear on your charging port.

Through most thin cases, yes. Thick or metal cases block the transfer; an official MagSafe-compatible case gives the best snap and charging speed.

No. Modern phones manage temperature and charging current themselves. Wireless charging runs slightly warmer than wired but stays well within safe margins.
Can I charge wirelessly and use the built-in cable at the same time?
